Today was the first online lecture of our quarantined course. I feel calm about everything that happens, but it is a weird feeling seeing how the world around you closes its doors. Emails are coming to announce another closure; people aren't leaving their homes. And all this makes you feel that you are not taking things seriously.
But anyways.
This part of the brief took me a long time. Because...(that's my secret) - I'm good with the sketching, but I am so slow with the colouring! I like so many styles of the colouring, and I still couldn't find my perfect one. I'm not sure if I want thick lines or smooth textures. Many things.
I started with the concept on the paper. I tried many different ways and stopped this kind of creature.
My first idea was to make the creature in the standing pose, but after I thought it would be more natural to draw it in the crawling position.
I created a sketch in Photoshop and started to colourise it. I wanted to make her look like transparent and fragile. To make the colours look more vibrant, I created a dark underwater background.
And here is a final result:
I couldn't say that I am delighted with the result. BUT I think I never finished any digital raster drawing before, so it's a big win anyways!
